Making The Most Of It

After the devastating effects of the recent earthquake in Christchurch NZ, the out of luck locals would have been excused for sitting on their arse, feeling slightly defeated.

As you will see from the video below titled QUAKED, these skaters have done the exact opposite and made the most out of a shit situation by using the recently torn up city as a brand new concrete playground, skating the cracks and newly twisted earth to create one of the most original skate vids we have ever seen.

Thats the spirit, we say.

Watch This Film! – The Dancing Outlaw (1991)

Watch This Film – The Dancing Outlaw (1991)
This is a documentary about a Glue Sniffing, multiple personality having, tap dancer/Elvis impersonating hick from Boone County, named Jeso White. The Dancing Outlaw led to Jesco achieving international fame; two more documentaries were made about him and his family, as well as a feature film. This is a strange film, hilarious in parts, cringe worthy through most. A Must See.

Watch This Film! Introduction

Guten Morgen Fine Pooples.

Here begins the movie club. Where I, Das Snuggler, will present to you a feature to download, watch, enjoy and comment on any time I feel the urge. These films will be either a feature documentary or film that I love, and feel must be shared with the masses; they will range from the underground to the main stream, the abhorrent to whimsical, and everything in between. I, in no way hold the copyright to any of these videos, however, I feel this is like a cyber version of getting my friends around to watch and talk about a sweet flick.

So, keep your eyes peeled (that’s a really weird saying, how do you peel an eye, and how would that help you find things??) for the first two releases which will be hitting the trons instantly. Diorrrrr!!!!

Inside Out Project

One of our soon-to-be DAA contributors recently sent us a link to this extraordinary video, which I later found out is part of a global street art project called Inside Out. So impressed by the footage of this work-in-progress global paste up mission, we had to learn more and share it with you.

According to their website, ”Inside Out is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images will be made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or in a group; posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window to a wall of portraits on an abandoned building or a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and viewable virtually.”

Big Tits Zombie

We came across a Japanese film this afternoon with a title that translates in English as “Big Tits Zombie”. Naturally we had to watch it. Like most over the top Japanese films, Big Tits Zombie delivered more than we bargained for with this particular scene. It’s nice and graphic – so don’t say we didn’t warn you…

VBS.TV – Can You Dig It?

We are suckers for a good documentary and when we discovered VBS.TV a while ago, we didn’t even want to go for toilet breaks anymore (even though you can pause, and they are often split into 5 minute mini documentaries).  VBS.TV (Vice Broadcasting System) is part of the Vice media conglomerate, which also includes Vice magazine, a record label and a venue; its ‘no bullshit, what you get is what you see’ approach is one that we personally love. It isn’t censored, and usually brings something to your attention that you don’t know all that much about, for example circumcision rituals in Uganda.

The best thing about VBS is that it is that they don’t pretend to be unbiased, they just report it as they see and experience it firsthand and if they have sponsors for the particular series or documentary, they don’t try to slip in subliminal product placement, they’ll tell you straight up.* It’s a much better kind of journalism than the news pretends to be, it’s raw, it doesn’t aim to be objective and it brings to your attention some pretty cool shit.

In case this weird and unpredictable weather  sticks around for the next few weeks (which I hope doesn’t – but just in case), we thought we’d share a little of our love for VBS with you to make your festive season a little more bearable. Consider this our Christmas present to you. We’re pretty sure you’ll thank us.

Let’s Colour Project

Six months of ideas and inspiration have now been put into motion,  and Dulux have a released a creative new global marketing campaign with the idea of putting colour back into people’s lives.  According to the website, ‘Grey is Gone.’ Dulux teamed up with film maker Adam Berg and Sigur Ros’ frontman Jonsi to create the Let’s Colour project, an intiative that has seen cities all around the world turned into a giant palette of colour.

These short clips were shot in Brazil, France, India and England and does not simply represent paint being thrown on walls, whole communities got together to create literal walls of colour.

Sure there is an underlying motive, read sell more paint, but it doesn’t mean the concept isn’t really freakin’ cool. We think it is anyhow.

Check it out for yo’selves.
